Monthly Highlight

Central Youth Ministry

Central Family,

It has been a very hot and humid summer thus far, but it hasn't stopped the CYM from being as active as ever. There is more going on now than ever. We have added some new activities to the calendar that we also encourage members of the congregation to engage in. For example, we had 53 people go with us to Atlanta. We turned a Braves Game and 6 Flags trip into an over-nighter. Taking along 11 adult chaperones made everything go off without a hitch. It makes a trip very enjoyable when it runs that smoothly. The next trip that I am hoping to have a big response to is a much shorter trip, but I think it will be very rewarding. We are going canoeing at shark tooth creek on July the 8th. I'd love to see a large turn out for this activity as well.

To see what is going on in the CYM, always pay attention to inside top left section of your Sunday and Wednesday Highlights. Under the heading CYM, Barbara keeps every activity that we are doing posted at least 2 weeks ahead of time. Also, we have peen putting sign-up sheets and information bulletins up on the bulletin board just outside my office. Then of course there is also our website, www.centralchurchyouth.com. Go to it and click on the calendar to see what we’re planning.

Something very exciting to report is that the "Power House" is under construction. Lee has been working very hard at getting the lumber applied to the walls thus getting the construction under way. I really think that this is going to be a big hit when it is finished. We are trying very hard to meet a July 31st deadline. The reason is that for the first time in many years there is something special happening between our local congregations. Central, Cottondale, and Northport are all going to have a lock-in together. We will travel to each church and have activities at each location. I would really like to show off our new teen room at that time. Even if it isn't finished, it'll still be far enough along to get the overall concept; but how cool would it be to have it done and functional? The new Power House will include a billiard table, refreshment area, big screen, theatre, and stadium style seating, as well as plenty of room to hang out and relax with friends.

My hope is that the teens will take ownership in this facility and it will encourage them even more to bring their friends along to participate in our activities.

Speaking of bringing friends, the teens are definitely doing a good job of that. There are more and more new faces all the time. I don't want to put a hex on it by mentioning it, but there are several families that are considering placing membership with us because they are encouraged by our program and want their children to be part of it. I would ask that you, Central family, look for these visitors and do your best to make them feel welcomed and comfortable.

In closing, I would like to thank those hard working individuals that have been putting in their time to help make this program successful. It takes a lot to keep a program this big running this smoothly and I feel like we are doing it very well. The TPT has been a tremendous success and the kids are reaping the benefits. Keep up the great work and feel good with your works!

In Him,
